Does the app stop notifications?

This app cannot stop notifications from other apps. If you would rather they did not appear, turn on Focus mode on your device.

The person I hand it to just closes the app.

This app cannot stop the gesture that returns to the Home Screen. It records only how many times someone swiped left or right to go beyond the photos you chose.

I can't work out how to bring the number up.

Press and hold the "‹" in the top-left corner for about 1.5 seconds. You can change the hold time in Settings.

Is there a maximum number of photos I can choose?

No. Choose as many as you like.

Where are the photos stored?

Only on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere. You can delete them all at once from Settings.
